The National Pastime Theater in association with Sweet and Lowbrow Productions presents Oosha Boom’s Burlesk Idol, Chicago’s ORIGINAL amateur burlesque competition. Oosha Boom’s Burlesk Idol returns February 6th, and will run the first Saturday of every month, after its sold out debut in December. “Burlesk Idol” will offer an evening of professional and aspiring Striptease Starlets, hosted, of course, by Oosha Boom, “The Phoenix of Phunk”!
During the evening, 12 contestants will have 3-4 minutes each to show their shimmy to a panel of expert celebrity judges. Contestants will also be quizzed on burlesque history and culture. In addition, 3 of Chicago's most exciting professional peelers will be there to show everyone how it is done. Winners will receive a cash prize, a paid booking in an upcoming show, as well as other glamorous goodies!!
There will be 9 rounds of competition to accommodate our many hopefuls, with a bracket system, resulting in an ultimate winner in December.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE? Anyone over 18, of any age, race, size or shape. Men (BOY-lesk!) are also encouraged to participate, but they must perform in pasties and a g-string, as well as the ladies. To participate, please email sweetnlowbrow@gmail.com, or call the theater at 773-327-7077
Sweet-N-Lowbrow Productions is Maiden Sacrifice and Oosha Boom, two veteran theater and variety performers/producers/technicians, whose dazzling, unpredictable, outrageous brand of “Burlesk” harkens back to the days when the art form was still just as much about substance, satire, and spectacle as it was about sexuality.
